Whitney Cummings talks about a weird Megalopolis audition she gave to the legendary Francis Ford Coppola. It was all so weird, she believed someone was playing a joke on her.

Whitney went to audition in an environment that was so quiet and no one was friendly or hospitable. It wasn’t an audition she would normally go to, and she didn’t know what to expect.

Instead of reading the lines she had prepared, Coppola asked Whitney to do weird things like pretending to say goodbye to a son going to war, but in an English accent. It was completely unexpected.

Whitney started to think the whole audition was a prank. She looked around, wondering if hidden cameras were recording her, like she was on the show Punk’d. Everything felt very strange to her.

Instead of following a script, Coppola asked Whitney to improvise a scene with him. While Coppola is famous for making great movies, Whitney felt she was doing most of the improvising, which made things awkward.

By the end of the audition, Whitney felt embarrassed and almost cried. She didn’t understand why things went the way they did and questioned how she thought Hollywood auditions usually worked.

After the audition, Coppola gave Whitney a signed book and a bottle of wine from his own collection. Although the audition was strange, this gift helped make the whole experience feel a little better.

Today, Whitney remembers the audition and chuckles at how stupid it was. Though it was embarrassing then, she thinks it’s a great story to recount and thanks for how ridiculous it was.
