Matty Healy Will ‘Stick to Music’ After Heated Feud With Azealia
Matty Healy, the lead singer of The 1975, influenced by the conflict he got into with rapper Azealia Banks, has decided to concentrate only on his music for now. This conflict started when Healy was racially stereotyped by rapper Azealia Banks. Banks claimed that Healy was ‘some sort of a crackhead’ and attacked him over his physical appearance and musical relevancy. These exchanges attracted much media attention with both artists throwing hate comments at each other.

He wrote on social media platform X that,
“Guys I don’t have the right kind of intelligence / emotional maturity etc for social media I literally just end up saying stuff that immediately regret etc. I’m actually just gonna stick to music cos I’m good at that. Having manic episodes on Twitter at 35 is kinda pathetic ❤️”
This post was most likely related to his bitter rivalry with Banks. This rivalry was triggered when the rap artist “ripped” into Charli XCX who’s currently engaged to Healy’s bandmate George Daniel. In light of this, Banks insulted the 360 singers saying “She used to be soooo pretty. Ugh. “Man, why’d I even bother?”
In response, Healy stated “Azealia you do seem to have a blind spot for your so-called ‘reads’. You smear the women who most seem to be culturally relevant, nice and attractive and don’t even need fake controversy to be successful. I am convinced this makes you envious because I can tell you are gifted but the rest of you is a disaster. Just rap bro, that’s all you need to do.”
That particular response sparked a war of words to the ultimate level. Even empowering images have been edited out but there Jim however did at one stage threaten to ‘slap’ Banks when she started hurling insults at Gabbriette, his fiancée. He described Banks as ‘the b___ look like Frankenstein to me’ He also went on to explain why attacking Gabrielle was a stupid move: “You both look like you share needles. Lmao, Healy said when stating that he would use my mental illness to full effect and vowed to dox anyone who saw fit to attack Gabi.
The comments made by Banks were associated with Healy’s involvement in the controversial events of 2023 when he and the hosts made nasty racist and sexist comments regarding rapper Ice Spice, with one of the remarks stating that the rapper is a cross between an “Inuit Spice Girl” and a “chubby Chinese lady” and then proceeding to perform accents that were also racist.
At one point, one of the men suggested to Healy that while shocking the MC with an Inuit slur should not be suggested, it was acceptable to ask her about her race. For this, Healy deemed Ice Spice to be “dumb”. He later tried to retract those comments on multiple occasions and offered what can only be described as a ‘half-apology’ at best.
There has been a lot of public chatter surrounding Healy’s captivating antics and engaging character, with many people deeply enjoying Healy as a person, while criticizing others. Due to his predilection for staying in the limelight, he has been involved in controversies more than once, ending with him having to specialize in resolving drama instead of focusing on music which made his band famous in the first place. Now that both Healy and his band have gained substantial fame, Healy has made it clear that’s he unwilling to indulge in any further controversies even as The 1975’s career continues to blossom.
The commercial success that The 1975’s recent albums have enjoyed alongside the notoriety of not only their competitions but also their music. This could probably mean that in the later scenario, such a move could eventually work out for Healy’s band. This strategy by Healy could be a sensible way to aid in expanding the brand as well as concentrating on the artistry that Healy and The 1975’s fans adore so much.

LA-based lawyer Andrea Oguntula said in an interview with Page Six, “While Ms. Censori’s outfit undoubtedly pushed the envelope, a charge of indecent exposure in California requires willful public exposure of one’s genitals with the specific intent to offend or sexually arouse. It’s theoretically possible but unlikely she’ll face any criminal prosecution for this incident.”
